“Homeland” Team Plan “Gattaca” TV Series

Sony Pictures

“Homeland” co-creators Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa are reportedly set to re-team with Showtime on a TV series adaptation of Andrew Niccol’s highly acclaimed 1997 sci-fi feature “Gattaca”.

The story unfolds in a world where science and humanity have evolved to the point where we can direct our own evolution through genetic engineering. As a result, the only class divide now is one of genetic perfection.

In this near future, corporations screen their employees based on their genetic makeup, and the series centers on a man with a congenital heart condition who tries to assume the identity of a former athlete with perfect genes in order to fulfil his dream of travelling in space.

Sony Pictures Television is backing this TV version being written by Gordon, Gansa and Craig Borten. The original report indicates the series “takes place a generation after the events of the film” which would suggest it’s in the same continuity despite the premise sounding like a straightforward remake.

Gordon, Gansa, Glenn Gellar and Danny DeVito executive produce, DeVito having been involved in that capacity on the original film which starred the likes of Ethan Hawke, Jude Law, Uma Thurman, Loren Dean, Alan Arkin and Gore Vidal.
