Holland Talks Fred Astaire Spidey Future

Out promoting “Spider-Man: No Way Home” in London, Tom Holland revealed to the Associated Press that he’ll play iconic actor-singer-dancer Fred Astaire in an upcoming feature for Sony Pictures.

Holland’s “Spider-Man” producer and former Sony chief Amy Pascal is behind the project, Pascal telling GQ the other week she wanted Holland for the role in a profile of the actor. Holland says:

“The script came in a week ago, I haven’t read it yet; they haven’t given it to me. She [Pascal] FaceTimed me earlier. I was in the bath, and we had a lovely FaceTime, but I will be playing Fred Astaire.”

It’s not clear who is writing the project. Holland previously showed off his dancing skills in a now legendary appearance on “Lip Sync Battle” in 2017.

This project is not to be confused with Amazon’s film which has cast Jamie Bell and Margaret Qualley as Astaire and Ginger Rogers respectively.

As for doing those new three new Spider-Man films that Pascal mentioned the other week, an obviously tired Holland tells the outlet with a smile: “Maybe…we’ll see” before going into a longer explanation:

“I love this character more than anything. This character has changed my life. I have a relationship with my fans that is so wonderful. I couldn’t ask for it to be any better. But I want to do what’s best for the character. If it’s time for me to step down and the next person to step up, I’ll do so proudly.

You know, I’d love to see a more diverse Spider-Man universe, which would be really exciting. If I could be a part of that – if I could be the Iron Man to the next young Spider-Man or Spider-Woman, that would be great. But at the moment, all I have to think about is the character and what’s best for Peter Parker.”

“Spider-Man: No Way Home” opens in cinemas on December 17th.
