“Hogwarts Legacy” Sets WBD Sales Records

It has been known for a while now “Hogwarts Legacy” has been a hit in terms of sales, but just how much of a hit has been revealed as part of the Warner Bros. Discovery quarterly earnings call to investors today.

According to WBD CEO David Zaslav, the open-world, action role-playing game has sold more than 12 million units and hit $850 million in sales globally in just two weeks.

In addition, the game has seen 280 million hours played and has become the biggest single-player game ever on Twitch with 1.28 million peak concurrent viewers at launch.

The release, which is only on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC at the moment, surpasses all of the company’s previous game launches and exceeded sales records across the three platforms available.

Zaslav says: “As the only studio scaled in gaming, we see it as a meaningful differentiator and a substantial opportunity.” The release has also seen an increase in the franchise’s fan engagement with Wizarding World Digital garnering 300% higher traffic this month.

This is even before the title launches on older and slower consoles such as the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on April 4th, and the Nintendo Switch on July 25th.

To give you a comparison, “Elden Rings” last year took a full month to reach 13.4 million copies sold whilst “Cyberpunk 2077” took three weeks to hit 13.7 million copies – this will likely beat both. The overall fastest-selling game record is still held by “Grand Theft Auto V” which managed to shift 11 million copies in its first day.
