“Hogwarts Legacy” Scores $1 Billion In Sales

Warner Bros. Interactive

Warner Bros. Discovery has announced that the video game “Hogwarts Legacy” has surpassed 15 million copies sold and has grossed over $1 billion in sales since it was released for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on February 10th.

The numbers were revealed as a part of the company’s first-quarter earnings results and make it Warner’s biggest game launch ever.

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav says it has become the fifth $1 billion-plus gaming franchise for Warners alongside “Mortal Kombat,” “Game of Thrones,” and the LEGO and DC games.

The news comes as the title launches on the prior eighth-generation consoles like PlayStation 4 and Xbox One today.

JB Perrette, CEO of global streaming and games at WBD says that while that release is “important,” when it comes to older hardware, the company has much higher hopes for the Switch version releasing on July 25th:

“We see that as probably a much bigger install base and a fan base that, as relates to the franchise of Harry Potter… we see a much bigger upside probably from that release, certainly than the Gen 8 [release]”.

Also today, a new patch has been added to the game, delivering over 500 fixes and adding an arachnophobia mode which makes the game easier to play for those afraid of spiders.

The new mode reduces and removes spider skitters and screeches, gets rid of spider ground effect spawners, renders static spider corpses – and, most amusingly, makes spiders in the game less intimidating by putting roller skates on them.
