“Hocus Pocus 3” Sets Director, Writer

Following Disney Studios president Sean Bailey confirming that a third “Hocus Pocus” project is happening, THR has revealed that things are already moving fast on the movie.

The trade reports that Anne Fletcher and Jen D’Angelo will be returning to direct and write, respectively, following their collaboration on “Hocus Pocus 2”. Kenny Ortega helmed the 1993 original.

The second film set a record for an opening weekend streaming release with 2.7 billion minutes viewed. It ended up being the No. 5 most-streamed movie of 2022 with a total of 5.7 billion minutes watched.

The first film famously was not a box office hit but became a cult hit over the years due to cable TV. The question as to whether this third one might try for a theatrical release is unclear.

Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy star in the films as the Sanderson sisters – Winifred, Sarah and Mary, respectively – a trio of witches who suck the life force out of children in an effort to stay young.

It’s not clear if there have been any discussions with Midler, Parker and Najimy to reprise their roles, but Midler said last year she’d be game to return.

The second film introduced teenager Becca (Whitney Peak), who is revealed to be a witch herself, and it’s believed Fletcher’s careful handling of that storyline was a big reason she’s being brought back.
