Henry Cavill Confirms His Superman Return

Warner Bros. Pictures

Following his cameo in the post-credits scene of “Black Adam” this weekend, actor Henry Cavill has made it official and confirmed on social media he’s back as Superman.

The actor shared a video and promises there’s plenty more of him in the role on the way, saying: “A very small taste of what’s to come, my friends. The dawn of hope renewed. Thank you for your patience, it will be rewarded. #Superman”

Though there are no writers or director attached, the intention is for Cavill to star in at least one more solo Superman movie like he did in 2013’s “Man of Steel”. Other movie appearances in DC film projects could potentially follow.

Getting Cavill back to the role was a fraught experience as previous DC film boss Walter Hamada denied any possibility of a cameo in “Black Adam”. It wasn’t until after Warners chiefs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy started their jobs in July, and Hamada began plans for his exit, that star Dwayne Johnson was able to go around Hamada’s back straight to De Luca and Abdy and get the thumbs up.

Even then a deal to get Cavill in the movie was a long way from a certainty which led to the team initially filming Superman with a body double and test-screening the scene without showing the character’s face. It wasn’t until September that Cavill filmed his end of things in London after the deal was closed.
