Warner Bros. Animation and New Line Cinema have announced a July 21st 2028 release date for the film adaptation of the highly popular “Hello Kitty” IP.
Created in 1974 and a $6 billion annual merchandising superstar, the Hello Kitty brand has never been adapted for the big screen before. The film adaptation has been in the works since 2015.
At last report back in 2021, twenty characters from the Sanrio Corporation-owned property are allowed to be used in the film, including disgruntled cracked egg Gudetama and the rabbit My Melody.
The flagship character is the British anthropomorphised white cat named Kitty White, who wears a bow.
Lindsey Beer penned the script for the film, while Leo Matsuda (“Big Hero 6,” “Abominable”) will helm the film. Beau Flynn produces, and Wendy Jacobson executive produces. No word on who will star.
