“Heat 2,” New “Jumanji” Nab Tax Credits

Sony Pictures

Both Michael Mann’s “Heat 2” and the overall fourth film in the “Jumanji” franchise are the biggest winners of the latest round of California’s entertainment tax credit program.

This round marks the first since the program was expanded recently to try and revitalise production in the state. Under the program, 52 films will share around $334 million in incentives for shooting in California.

It is expected the credits will generate $1.4 billion in economic activity across businesses with ties to the entertainment industry and employ thousands of cast and crew members.

It comes at a desperately needed time as filming in Los Angeles was reportedly at an all-time low in the third quarter of this year.

Ten major studio titles are on the list, including $37.2 million for “Heat 2,” $43.9 million for the new “Jumanji,” $18 million for the new film from The Daniels, $14.8 million for “The Fifth Wheel,” and $16.4 million for Blumhouse’s “Sunday”.

Warner Bros. Pictures, Paramount Pictures and Apple Studios also landed credits along with 42 independent films.
