It’s official, HBO’s “Succession” is coming to an end with the award-winning drama series set to conclude with its fourth season this year which premieres on Sunday March 26th.
The new run, which kicks off two weeks after HBO’s current hit “The Last of Us” wraps its run on March 12th, picks up in the wake of the third season finale as patriarch Logan Roy (Brian Cox) betrayed his adult kids including Siobhan (Sarah Snook), Roman (Kieran Culkin) and Kendall (Jeremy Strong).
Creator Jesse Armstrong revealed the show ending news in an interview with The New Yorker. He says in late 2021 they got together and considered various scenarios for the new season with the decision being to “do something a bit more muscular and complete, and go out sort of strong”.
He adds that the decision to end “solidified through the writing and even when we started filming: I said to the cast, ‘I’m not a hundred per cent sure, but I think this is it.’ Because I didn’t want to bulls— them, either.”
Asked why he decided to talk about it being the last season before it goes to air. He says: “We don’t hide the ball very much on the show. I feel a responsibility to the viewership, and I personally wouldn’t like the feeling of, ‘Oh, that’s it, guys. That was the end.’ I wouldn’t like that in a show. I think I would like to know it is coming to an end.”
The news follows on from Brian Cox’s comments to Town & Country this week catching headlines. Cox talked about his disdain for the Method acting approach, one his co-star Jeremy Strong uses to play Kendall and says: “Oh, it’s f—ing annoying. Don’t get me going on it.”
Cox says he considers Strong “a very good actor” and says: “He feels if he went somewhere else he’d lose it, but he won’t! Strong is talented. He’s f—ing gifted. When you’ve got the gift, celebrate the gift.”
