Another key member of the “The Last of Us” game team is set to join the upcoming HBO TV series adaptation of the property.
“Chernobyl” creator Craig Mazin serving as showrunner and executive producer has teamed with the game’s writer and creative director Neil Druckmann on the project and Druckmann has revealed on Twitter today that Oscar-winning Argentine composer Gustavo Santaolalla has officially signed on to score the live-action series.
Santaolalla composed the iconic ronroco-heavy score for both the 2013 game and the upcoming sequel releasing in May. The man is behind the iconic scores of such famed films as “Brokeback Mountain” and “Babel,” and shows like “Narcos: Mexico” and “Making a Murderer”.
The game followed Ellie and Joel, a teenage girl and a hardened older male smuggler who navigate a zombie-ridden world two decades after a horrible fungal plague spread throughout humanity. It was released in 2013 and along with selling more than 17 million copies is widely considered one of the greatest video games ever made.
The series will reportedly cover the events of the original game along with new content and some elements likely in the forthcoming sequel. Carolyn Strauss and Naughty Dog president Evan Wells will also executive produce what will be the first television series from PlayStation Productions.
