HBO’s “I’ll Be Gone in the Dark” First Trailer

The Liz Garbus-directed HBO six-part docu-series “I’ll Be Gone in the Dark” has released its first trailer below. The series focuses on The Golden State Killer, a figure California in the 1970s and 1980s whose crimes remained unsolved, and true crime blogger Michelle McNamara (who was also comedian Patton Oswalt’s wife).

McNamara was in the midst of writing a book about her obsessive investigation into the case, but was unable to complete the book before her sudden death of an accidental overdose in 2016.

Oswalt turned to Paul Haynes and Billy Jensen to help finish the book which they did and it became a bestseller. Shortly after, former police officer Joseph James DeAngelo was arrested as a suspect in the case.

Actreess Amy Ryan will read excerpts from the book in the series which draws from extensive archival footage and police files as well as exclusive new interviews with detectives, survivors and family members of the killer to look at the complicated investigation.

“I’ll Be Gone in the Dark” premieres on HBO on June 28th.
