Around 9.3 million viewers tuned into the season finale of HBO’s “House of the Dragon” on Sunday, according to the network.
That marks the premium cabler’s biggest finale night for a series since the conclusion of “Game of Thrones” in May 2019 pulled in 19.8 million viewers in the same period.
The episode’s viewership has been pulled across all platforms based on a combination of Nielsen, and first-party data for four cable channel airings and HBO Max streams through the night.
Surprisingly it’s not the high watermark of the season, that belongs to the show’s second episode, which managed 10.2 million viewers.
The numbers come despite stiff competition from Sunday Night Football and the final game of baseball’s American League Championship Series.
All episodes of the series are averaging around 29 million viewers in the U.S., more than triple their average debut-night audience thanks to strong catch-up viewing.
