HBO has released the official trailer for their four-part miniseries “Catherine the Great” about the famed long reign of the Russian monarch.
Oscar-winner Helen Mirren stars as Catherine, one of history’s most powerful women, in a story that delves into the final years of her politically tumultuous and sexually charged court.
Catherine wielded supreme power throughout Russia for nearly half of the 18th century – strong-minded, independent, brilliantly intelligent and sexually-liberated, she was the definition of the modern woman.
The series will also deal with her passionate affair with Grigory Potemkin (Jason Clarke). Gina McKee, Rory Kinnear and Richard Roxburgh co-star in the project penned by Nigel Williams (“Elizabeth I”) and helmed by Philip Martin (“Prime Suspect”). The series is set to make its debut sometime this Fall on HBO.
