HBO is famous for premiering many stand-up comedy specials over the years, but this year they’re trying something different – their first-ever fully animated hour-long stand-up special.
Comedian Tig Notaro is leading the special and selected Six Point Harness (“Hair Love,” “Guava Island”) to produce the animation.
Ellen DeGeneres serves as an executive producer, marking the third collaboration between Notaro and DeGeneres following the pair working on each other’s Netflix specials.
The aim is to create a “groundbreaking new stand-up special in a way that no one has ever done one before.” Notaro penned the special which Greg Franklin directs.
The special will premiere on HBO sometime this Summer. Notaro, a series regular on CBS All Access’ “Star Trek: Discovery,” will next be seen in Zack Snyder’s “Army of the Dead” premiering later this month.
