HBO Documentary Films has announced that they are in production on a follow-up episode to their critically acclaimed 2019 four-part docuseries “The Case Against Adnan Syed”.
Syed, the subject of the first season of the blockbuster “Serial” podcast, was released from prison on Monday after a judge vacated his 2000 conviction for the murder of former high school girlfriend Hae Min Lee.
The now 41-year-old Syed had been serving a life sentence and has maintained his innocence throughout his 23 years behind bars. He was released after prosecutors determined they no longer had “confidence in the integrity of the conviction”.
Amy Berg is helming the follow-up episode, which will feature exclusive access to Syed leading up to and following his release. She has been conducting filming for the episode since early 2021.
