HBO Max’s “Love Life” Gets Quick Release

HBO Max has opted to speed up the release of its biggest debut original series “Love Life”. The Anna Kendrick-led romantic comedy anthology was to be rolled out over eight weeks, but they are now compressing it to just a three week run.

The first three episodes debuted this past week, the fourth through sixth episodes will arrive next week, and the seventh through tenth episodes will arrive June 11th. The streamer’s second set of original series begins rolling out June 18th.

It’s not clear how big of an audience has tuned in as HBO Max isn’t sharing any viewer data, Nielsen’s SVOD Content Ratings doesn’t account for the service yet, and the lack of availability on platforms like Amazon and Roku are expected to severly impact early uptake of the new service.

The Lionsgate-produced show was the only original scripted series aimed at adults to arrive on launch day and has received mixed reviews. June is expected to fare better with HBO’s new “I May Destroy You” and “Perry Mason” series along with new seasons of “Doom Patrol,” “Search Party,” the first of the new “Adventure Time” specials and the arrival of the entire twenty-three season “South Park” back catalogue.
