HBO Max’s “Duster” Axed After One Season

HBO Max

The J.J. Abrams-produced 1970s crime series “Duster” has been canceled at HBO Max after just one season.

Josh Holloway and Rachel Hilson led the series set in the American Southwest and followed a gutsy getaway driver (Holloway) working for a growing crime syndicate.

Things go from dangerous to wildly, stupidly dangerous when a tenacious young agent (Hilson) comes into town hellbent on taking his crime family down. LaToya Morgan co-created and executive produced alongside Abrams.

The news follows less than a week after the first season finale aired on the streamer – the show premiering on the service on May 15th. Reviews were fairly good with a 72/100 on Metacritic but such a fast cancellation suggests viewership was simply not there. The show never made the Nielsen Top 10.

The show is the only series under Abrams & Bad Robot’s sizable overall deal with Warner Bros. to make it to air on HBO Max – Abrams did executive produce animated series “Batman: Caped Crusader” which was sold off to Amazon Prime who has ordered more seasons.
