HBO Max has officially greenlit the Ava DuVernay-produced four-part limited series “DMZ,” based on the Vertigo comic.
DuVernay has already directed the pilot for the series which unfolds on the isolated and sparsely populated demilitarized zone of what was once Manhattan.
A second American Civil War in the near future has seen the remains of the federal government and the secessionist Free State armies holding an uneasy detente.
The series centers on a female medic on the island who is trying day-in and day-out to help keep residents alive while trying to also find her lost son. She soon proves a source of hope in an America that has lost all sense of the idea.
Production is slated to begin on the rest of the series in 2021.
