HBO Developing A “V for Vendetta” TV Series

Warner Bros. Pictures

A TV series adaptation of “V for Vendetta” is reportedly in development at HBO and Warner Bros. Television.

Pete Jackson (“The Death of Bunny Munro”) is attached to write the series adaptation while James Gunn and Peter Safran of DC Studios will executive produce along with Ben Stephenson and Leanne Klein.

The property began as a comic written by Alan Moore and illustrated by David Lloyd back in 1982. The story is set in Britain in a dystopian, not-too-distant future in which the country is controlled by the fascist Norsefire party.

An anarchist named V, known for his distinctive Guy Fawkes mask, seeks to topple the government with the help of Evey Hammond, a young woman V rescued from the country’s secret police.

The property was famously adapted into the well-received James McTeigue-directed and The Wachowskis-produced 2005 film adaptation starring Hugo Weaving as V and Natalie Portman as Evey. A cinematic re-release of the film will take place in November next year.

This would mark the latest DC adaptation in the works at HBO following last year’s “The Penguin” and next year’s “Lanterns”. HBO previously aired a highly acclaimed TV series ‘sequel’ to Moore’s acclaimed comic “Watchmen” back in 2019.
