“Hawkeye” Producer On Why No Season 2

The Jeremy Renner-led “Hawkeye” spin-off series at Marvel Studios was well-received, one of the better examples of Marvel Studios’ efforts on the Disney+ service.

Over four years on, however, there still hasn’t been a follow-up. Naturally, Renner’s snowplow accident, which nearly cost him his life, had an impact. But the actor has since returned to acting, and many fans wondered if we would get another season.

Then, in May last year, Renner revealed a second season was in development with Disney asking him to do it. The catch being they wanted him to do it for only half the money he got paid for the first season.

Now, the first season’s consulting producer Andrew Guest is out doing promotional rounds for the new “Wonder Man” series on which he’s showrunner. In an interview with The Direct, Guest says plans for a second season have been discussed but puts the blame on ‘timing’ more than anything else:

“There was talk at a certain point about . . . we did explore creatively what Season 2 of Hawkeye might be if we were able to do it. Unfortunately, the timing didn’t work out in terms of Marvel and all the various pieces that need to come together, but I loved working on Hawkeye. I think [Jeremy] Renner and Hailee Steinfeld are so terrific together, and I would love to see more of those two.”

Renner himself seemed more upbeat about the possibility recently, saying in interviews that “we’ll work it out” to the point it could go ahead. Previous rumors suggest Trickshot will be the antagonist.
