The critics have not been kind to Disney’s “The Lone Ranger”.
Boasting just a 23% and 4.6/10 score on Rotten Tomatoes, and a 37/100 on Metacritic, the mega-budget western is garnering some of the worst scores of any tentpole film this Summer.
I’m not as down on it as others seem to be. It’s not a 1 out of 5 star movie, more of a 2 or maybe 2.5. Narratively it’s a mess, but the action set pieces are fine and there’s the odd fun scene in its bloated runtime.
Also opening this weekend is “Despicable Me 2” which has landed a more impressive 74% and 6.6/10 score on Rotten Tomatoes, and a 61/100 on Metacritic. Those figures are only slightly lower than the first film.
