20th Century Studios

Kenneth Branagh’s third Poirot film “A Haunting in Venice” debuted to $14.5 million domestically and $37.2 million globally.

That’s softer than expected domestically, where it came in second, but right on track internationally, where it proved fairly strong in European markets.

Critical reviews have been good, though the film has begun to draw an interesting online reaction over the weekend even as it scored the same B CinemaScore in exit polls as the other two Branagh Poirots.

“The Nun II” maintained strong business, coming in first domestically with $14.7 million and snagging a further $30.1 million offshore. Its worldwide total now stands at $158.8 million. The film is reportedly tracking ahead of all the films in the Conjuring franchise with the exception of the first “The Nun”.

“The Equalizer 3” came in third with $7.1 million domestically and now sits at a total of $132.4 million worldwide, “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3” was fourth with $3.7 million domestically.

“Barbie” rounded out the Top 5 with $3.4 million in its ninth weekend and a $1.41 billion worldwide total. Domestically that film’s $626 million haul passed the first “The Avengers” ($623 million) this weekend.

“Dumb Money” had a very limited debut with previews in NYC and LA where its few screens snagged an impressive $27,080 per screen average.

Finally, Shah Rukh Khan’s “Jawan” grossed around $20.8 million overseas this weekend, pushing its worldwide total to $104.2 million and is currently the third biggest Bollywood movie ever.
