“Green Knight” and “A Ghost Story” director David Lowery and distributor A24 are set to re-team for a third time with the filmmaker’s next feature “Mother Mary”.
Anne Hathaway and “I May Destroy You” star Michaela Coel are onboard in the lead roles with Lowery directing from a script he wrote. Filming will take place in Germany.
The project is described as an epic pop melodrama following a fictional musician (Hathaway) and her relationship with an iconic fashion designer (Coel).
Jack Antonoff and Charli XCX will write and produce original songs for the film alongside an original score composed by Daniel Hart.
Topic Studios is co-financing with Lowery, Toby Halbrooks and James M. Johnston, Jeanie Igoe, Jonas Katzenstein, Maximilian Leo and Jonathan Saubach producing.
Hathaway is incredibly busy of late with Sundance entry “Eileen,” Neon’s “Mother’s Instinct” and Amazon’s “The Idea of You” all debuting this year. Last week she signed on for “It Follows” director David Robert Mitchell’s new untitled feature at Bad Robot.
Coel most recently starred in Marvel’s “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” and has a series remake of “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” on the way, starring opposite Donald Glover.
Lowery most recently wrote and directed Disney’s live-action “Peter Pan & Wendy” which will debut on the Disney+ service on April 28th.
