Harry Styles is in final negotiations to star in a currently untitled film adaptation of Bethan Roberts’ acclaimed 1950s gay policeman romance novel “My Policeman” at Amazon Studios
Set in Brighton, England, schoolteacher Marion becomes instantly smitten with the handsome policeman Tom (Styles). Then Tom meets Patrick, a museum curator who opens his eyes to a glamorous, sophisticated new world.
Though Tom is drawn to Patrick, it is safer for him at that time to marry Marion. So the two lovers must share him, until one of them breaks and all three lives are forever changed.
The story will employ a flashback structure and take place in the late 1990s, when Tom and Marion take an elderly, invalid Patrick into their home – forcing them to revisit those events forty years prior. Lily James is in negotiations to play the female lead, no word on whom will play Patrick as yet but it’s expected the role will be cast a little older than 26-year-old Styles.
Tony Award winner Michael Grandage (“Genius”) is set to direct from a script by Oscar-nominated writer Ron Nyswaner (“Philadelphia”). Greg Berlanti, Robbie Rogers, Sarah Schechter, Cora Palfrey and Philip Herd will produce.
Shooting begins next spring/summer in the United Kingdom.
