“Harry Potter” TV Series Trailer Breaks Records

HBO Max

This week’s trailer for HBO’s “Harry Potter” TV series has shattered records for the premium cabler.

The clip reportedly pulled in over 277 million views in its first 48 hours, easily the most-watched trailer in HBO and HBO Max history and doubling the previous record.

Previously, the biggest trailer for HBO was the full trailer for the second season of “The Last of Us”, which pulled in 158 million views in 72 hours in March last year. It is estimated to have pulled in a little over 100 million views at the 48-hour mark.

The recent third-season trailer for “Euphoria” was also a massive hit with just under 100 million views in 48 hours when it released in January.

Numbers for the trailers for shows like “House of the Dragon” and “IT: Welcome to Derry” weren’t released, but are expected to be under that. Third parties suggested the third season trailer for ‘Dragon’ was around 70-80 million.

The new series will launch this Christmas with Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. The reception for the trailer has been varied with inevitable comparisons drawn to the films.
