Last we heard a planned “Indiana Jones” spin-off Disney+ series had been cancelled, and there were no plans for a recasting or rebooting (at least for now) of the franchise.
So the upcoming “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” really will be Harrison Ford’s final outing in the role. Ford has now doubled down on this in a new interview with Total Film, offering its preview of the movie.
Ford clearly says: “This is the final film in the series, and this is the last time I’ll play the character. I anticipate that it will be the last time that he appears in a film.” He added he is aware of the potential series and says: “[I] will not be involved in that if it does come to fruition.”
Word of a TV series broke in November, with Disney and Lucasfilm having brought up the possibility of a series in general meetings with writers and hearing pitches – so no story details were available. In late March came word Lucasfilm had pulled the plug on the project with Lucasfilm shifting its attention to only “Star Wars” product.
ABC ran a “The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles” series in the early 1990s with Sean Patrick Flannery, Corey Carrier and George Hall playing the character (and Ford did a cameo in one episode).
“Indiana Jones and the Dial of the Destiny” is set to have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May ahead of its June 30 theatrical release. Check out new photos from the film below.
