“Stranger Things” alum David Harbour has spoken a bit about the DC animated series “Creature Commandos” and a meeting that he had with DC Studios Co-CEO James Gunn.
The project marks the first production that’s a part of the new DC Universe initiative from Gunn and Peter Safran. Viola Davis, Sean Gunn, Frank Grillo, Indira Varma, Alan Tudyk, Maria Bakalova, Zoë Chao, Steve Agee, and more co-star.
As Gunn revealed the other day, script work and voice recording for the series is already complete. As a result, the ongoing strikes aren’t expected to impact production.
Speaking with Collider before the strike, the actor says the show aims to be a real laugh:
“I didn’t know what it was when it was sent to me. I met with James, and he sort of laid out a lot of stuff. It’s really exciting. He considers it some of the best stuff he’s ever written.
It’s hilarious, and the character is great. I think it’s been announced that it’s Frankenstein, and it’s a very colorful, terrific character.
So, yeah, we’ve started to shoot stuff. I’m not one to really break, but during this, it is wildly funny stuff. So, yeah, we’re shooting. It’s hilarious and I can’t wait for people to see it.”
Harbour also offered a brief update on the proposed sequel to the holiday-themed action-comedy “Violent Night” in which he starred as a pain-bringing Santa Claus:
“Before the writers’ strike there was, you know, maybe something that came in. We’ll have to see where it fits if they can resolve all these labor issues. If the studios would please go to the table and end these labor issues, we could shoot all kinds of things I’d love to give to the people! But yes, we’re in process.”
“Creature Commandos” is currently targeting a 2024 release, no release plans are in place for a potential “Violent Night 2” as yet.
