FOX has handed out an early second-season renewal order for the Jon Hamm-led animated comedy series “Grimsburg”.
The order was announced by Fox Entertainment President Michael Thorn as part of a MIPCOM panel this week and comes well ahead of the series launch, which is expected to take place sometime in 2023.
Hemm stars as Marvin Flute (Hamm), a skilled detective who has no problems catching cannibal clowns but can’t solve one key mystery – himself.
To do that he must return to Grimsburg, a town where everyone has a secret or three, and redeem himself in the eyes of his fellow detectives, his ferocious ex-wife and his lovably unstable son.
Talking about the early renewal, Thorn says: “everything we’re seeing with ‘Grimsburg’ – from the very first scripts and show bible to animatics and preliminary cuts – makes us believe we have a winner on our hands that beautifully complements our animation brand.”
Fox remains the only American broadcast network to air animated series in primetime, with the company doubling down on those efforts in recent years with the acquisition of the “Bob’s Burgers” animation studio Bento Box Entertainment.
“Grimsburg” joins Dan Harmon’s “Krapopolis” series as another FOX animated show that has yet to premiere but scored an early second-season pickup. Both shows are produced by Bento Box and are wholly owned by Fox.
