A new report at Bloody Disgusting indicates that several bidders have emerged as front runners to handle the next incarnation of the “Halloween” franchise.
Last year’s “Halloween Ends” served as the end of the recent David Gordon Green-directed sequel trilogy and of Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions’ involvement in the franchise going forward.
The franchise is now back with producer Malek Akkad’s Trancas International Films who solely owns the television rights and co-owns the film rights with Miramax.
According to the site, a bidding war is underway right now for television rights with A24 and Miramax said to be the two main parties currently battling for TV rights.
They add A24 is “currently leading the charge”. A24 recently won the rights to produce “Crystal Lake,” a “Friday the 13th” TV series that “Hannibal” showrunner Bryan Fuller is doing for Peacock.
Bloody Disgusting says Trancas is open to both film and television projects and is currently taking offers from studios and streamers alike before deciding what to proceed with.
