Brett Haley (“All the Bright Places,” “Hearts Beat Loud”) has been set to direct “Summer Lovin’,” the upcoming prequel to iconic 1978 screen musical “Grease” at Paramount Pictures, Temple Hill and Picturestart.
In the original film which is set in the 1950s, John Travolta played greaser Danny and Olivia Newton-John was good girl Sandy, high school teens who after having a brief summer fling come to find out they are attending the same high school.
Even though they come from opposite ends of the world, the two try to make their relationship work while singing various iconic songs including “Summer Nights” detailing the fling that started the relationship.
This film will explore that early fateful meeting. Leah McKendrick penned the script with Haley’s pitch said to update it for the 2020 audiences.
