Filmmaker James Gunn has confirmed that shooting on “The Suicide Squad” has wrapped, a production that on the one hand went far smoother than its predecessor. On the other, it was an emotionally tumultuous time for Gunn himself.
The filmmaker says the film’s experience was bookended by two significant losses in his life – his father who passed just before filming began, and his dog who died just before it wrapped. Gunn says it was a “hard, hard time in my life” and yet the making of the project was “the most fulfilling time I’ve ever had making a movie.”
Filming on the project began back in September and will now go into post-production for much of the rest of the year. Once that’s complete, Gunn is expected to segue into “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” filming either later this year or more likely early next year.
“The Suicide Squad” opens in cinemas on August 6th 2021.
