Filmmaker James Gunn has seemingly revealed Krypto the Superdog will be in the upcoming “Superman: Legacy” film at DC and Warner Bros. Pictures.
Gunn and actor Chris Pratt have been out doing many interviews together for Marvel Studios’ “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” with the pair having fun with each other as well as getting a little emotional about not seeing each other much anymore.
Speaking with the Toronto Sun, Pratt offered a rather heartfelt promise he and James will still make time to see and speak with each other now the ‘Guardians’ films are done. He added: “We still have a long life ahead of us so maybe we’ll work together again.”
That’s when the conversation led to the following exchange:
“Gunn: “I was hoping I could cast you as Krypto the Superdog (in Superman Legacy). You could do motion capture on set and walk around on your hands and knees, but you can’t talk.”
Pratt: “I’ll do Krypto but you have to pay me in crypto.”
Gunn: “I’ll pay you in crypto, which amounts to zero dollars. [laughs]
Pratt: “It sounds like there’s going to be a character called Krypto in Superman – breaking news.”
Interviewer: That’s a scoop for me.
Gunn: “It is a scoop, I guess.”
Pratt: “Way to go. You’re fired. Back to Marvel.” [laughs]
In the comics, Krypto the Superdog is portrayed as a white hound with super powers similar to Superman (albeit proportional to his size). His intelligence however has varied – sometimes portrayed as smart and talkative, other times with the mentality/temperament of a regular dog.
Krypto has appeared in numerous cartoon television shows and films including his own animated series along with “Smallville,” “Titans,” and most recently “DC League of Super-Pets” where he was voiced by Dwayne Johnson.
Gunn handed in a script for “Superman: Legacy” prior to the strike and pre-production on the film has just gotten underway ahead of a February start of filming.
