It has been an incredibly busy week on the speculation front when it comes to James Gunn’s “Superman” film with wild reports flying left and right over test screening results, runtimes, abrupt staff personnel changes including the film’s editor and composer, and overall ‘early opinions’ on the film.
THR has done a good piece on what is actually happening in an attempt to cut through the hyperbole. First up, the film did have three days of picks up in Atlanta, but there was no major reshoots.
Next, John Murphy was initially hired as composer but David Fleming was brought in to help out earlier this year and both will be using elements of John Williams’ work on the franchise.
There have also been several test screenings, their sources saying “I’m no defender of Gunn, but none of this is unusual. It’s part of honing of the movie. Any movie.” Another adds: “Gunn absolutely tests, he absolutely tinkers. He’s not one of those directors who can’t take suggestions.”
Their studio sources say Gunn is due to deliver a final and locked movie next Friday – a full five weeks out from release.
The report follows on from one at World of Reel that indicated up to 25 minutes have been trimmed from an earlier version of the movie, including reducing some of the humor. They said there has also been a “reworking of the film’s structure,” with the pickups likely related to those edits.
Scooper ViewerAnon says claims of characters like Brainiac, Amanda Waller and Sam Lane being in the film are false, and there is no “post-credit Brainiac tease or anything of the sort”.
The film is set to open in the U.S., China and other territories on July 11th.
