DC Studios co-chief James Gunn says The CW’s “Superman & Lois” is expected to continue for “one to two more seasons”.
The future of the CW series was revealed at a press event yesterday on the Warner Bros. lot to promote the new DC slate. Asked about the series, he says “it’s a show everybody likes, so it’s going to keep going for a little bit.”
The Tyler Hoechlin and Bitsie Tulloch-led series will soon debut its third season on The CW with Michael Bishop replacing Jordan Elsass as Jonathan Kent in the new run.
This marks one of the very few DC series still on the air following multiple cancellations and natural series endings. A ninth and final season of “The Flash” is set to premiere in February, whilst the current seasons of HBO Max’s “Titans” and “Doom Patrol” will be their last.
As Gunn’s new “Superman: Legacy” film doesn’t arrive until July 2025, a potential fourth and final season in 2024 shouldn’t conflict with the new DCU plan should the show be renewed.
Gunn and Safran were also asked about the fate of the upcoming CW series “Gotham Knights” to which neither had any comment. Both shows will premiere on March 14th.
The CW is largely moving out of original scripted programming sphere since Nexstar acquired a majority stake in the broadcast network and so it’s unlikely any future DC projects will come from the network which was, at one time, stacked to the gills with them.
