“Guardians of the Galaxy” and “The Suicide Squad” director James Gunn has revealed that he and actor David Hasselhoff have discussed doing a modern continuation of iconic 1982 TV2 series “Knight Rider”.
The original NBC series starred Hasselhoff as Michael Knight, a detective who fought crime with the help of his sentient car KITT. The series ran from 1982-1986 and was best known for its signature car and theme tune.
Responding to a more generalised question about rebooting classic TV series on Twitter (via Slashfilm), Gunn says:
“My friend [David Hasselhoff] and I have discussed doing a modern continuation of Knight Rider many times. The primary hurdle has been there aren’t enough hours in the day to do all the cool things I want to do!”
A short-lived attempt to revive/reboot the series took place in 2008, while a potential film was announced in 2020 with no director attached.
