Gunn Talks Cavill & “Huge Priority” Superman

Warner Bros. Pictures

Today marks the 44th anniversary of Richard Donner’s “Superman,” a movie still considered one of the greatest superhero films ever made and remains one of the most copied and honored works in the genre.

Marking the occasion, filmmaker and new co-chair and co-CEO of DC Studios James Gunn took to Twitter to commemorate it – and answer some questions.

In the wake of the various stories, rumors and conjecture flying around about the future of DC this week, one which Gunn is going to be a key part of shaping in the coming years, it was inevitable he was going to be asked about his plans for the character.

One fan asked whether Superman would be coming back to the big screen soon, to which he responded: “Yes of course. Superman is a huge priority, if not the biggest priority.”

Gunn also responded on a different thread to a fan who tweeted that Gunn does not like Henry Cavill who has played Superman four times now – most recently in a “Black Adam” cameo. Gunn was asked to comment on that claim and said: “Sure: false.”

When the original fan says he has heard from multiple people that Gunn doesn’t like Cavill, Gunn responded: “So weird. You seemed so plugged in! Anyway, I just had forty people reach out to me to say you just got kicked out of your Mom’s basement. So sorry, man.”

Asked about any Green Lantern content, Gunn only responded: “Important” though did make it clear any report that Ryan Reynolds was intending to reprise the role for filmmaker Zack Snyder at one time were false.

Gunn and partner Peter Safran are set to meet with Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav in the coming week to present their vision for the studio.
