Gunn Talks “Batman” Script & DCU Casting

With his “Superman” film hitting $300 million at the worldwide box-office today, and the film having a remarkable hold throughout the past few days, DC Studios chief James Gunn has now offered some updates on that other major player in the DC universe – Batman.

Appearing on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Gunn spoke about his reaction to Matt Reeves’ “The Batman Part II” script which was recently handed in and confirms it still needs some polishing:

“I like it. For sure, we’re headed in the right direction. There are some things that we’ve still got to work out. But it’s headed in the right direction, for sure.”

As for the DCU’s Batman, he won’t say what project the character will make his debut in and doesn’t offer any names. He adds that the Andy Muschietti-directed “The Brave and the Bold” film will ‘probably’ not be released in the same calendar year as “The Batman Part II” which is slated for October 1st 2027.

He did get asked about the fan push to cast “Reacher” star Alan Ritchson to which he says “I am a big Alan Ritchson Fan. Both as an actor and as a guy. Let’s just wait to see what happens”.

He adds that what he’s writing next isn’t a strict Superman sequel but he also ruled out a “Batman vs. Superman” film: “Superman is very important, and it’s not Batman versus Superman.” Asked if it would be a World’s Finest film, he also indicated that is not the case.

As for when he will reveal it, he says we should hear something “sooner rather than later”.
