James Gunn has shot down the “Wonder Woman” casting rumor that sprang up late yesterday.
Said rumor indicated that Gunn and DC Studios co-chief Peter Safran were seeking an actress with a TV-centric resume, akin to Supergirl’s Milly Alcock, for the role of Diana Prince/Wonder Woman.
Responding to the report on Threads, Gunn not only shot down the rumor but went on about why it was so false:
“Nope, and I’d never in a million years look for a major role based on whether they did TV, films, or whatever. It’s all about the casting. I didn’t cast Milly because of her past, but because she was the best one for the role. But we’re also not casting WW, nor even discussing it, until a script is finished.”
The casting talk did seem highly premature as no director is yet attached and the script still hasn’t been delivered as yet. Partly stirring the talk was a trade report earlier this week which said the film has been fast tracked by DC Studios. Gunn also responded to this:
“It’s a priority but I wouldn’t call that fast-tracked. Nothing is going to be shoot unless we’re as sure as we can be that the script is good.”
The new film is separate from “Paradise Lost,” the TV series set on the island of Themyscira before the birth of Diana. It was announced in 2023 and while Gunn says it’s still coming there hasn’t been any real updates on it of late.
The DCU is busy with “Superman” currently in cinemas, “Peacemaker” Season 2 arriving next month, and then “Lanterns,” “Supergirl” and “Clayface” next year.
