Gunn & Safran Nearly Finished DC Future Plans

Warner Bros. Discovery

James Gunn and Peter Safran took over as co-CEOs of DC Studios just two weeks ago. However, the pair have been busy says Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav.

In a discussion by RBC (via THR), Zaslav says Gunn and Safran are “coming close to the end” of finishing a ‘bible’ for the DCU. The ‘bible’ refers to a document that will shape and drive the creative aspect of the output of DC Studios over the next decade or so to come – outlining the broad strokes and rules for the mega-franchise.

Zaslav also indicates there will be a more streamlined DCU – expect fewer cases of multiple versions of a superhero on screen at once:

“I think over the next few years, you’re going to see a lot of growth and opportunity around DC, there’s not going to be four Batmans. And so part of our strategy is drive the hell out of DC, which James and Peter are going to do. I think they’ve thrilled the fans. I think they’re going to thrill you over a period of time.”

The line about ‘four Batmans’ is a pointed finger at the pre-Discovery Warners’ strategy, which allowed for various shows and films to have different versions of the same character on at the same time. What this means for Matt Reeves’ “The Batman” or Todd Phillips’ “Joker” is unclear, both are seemingly standalone for now.

Meanwhile, James Gunn recently tweeted a photo of the DC character Mr. Terrific which has led to suggestions that said character could play a role in the new DCU.
