Earlier this week, it was revealed filmmaker James Gunn and producer Peter Safran will become the co-chairmen and co-CEO of DC Studios.
Gunn, of course, has worked at both DC and Marvel Studios in recent years – on “The Suicide Squad” and “Peacemaker” at the former, and on the “Guardians of the Galaxy” trilogy at the latter.
Though he still has to finish up work on “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” and do promotion tied to it, he’s otherwise going to be occupied working on DC’s slate for the next few years.
This weekend on social media, Gunn quickly shot down any notion of a rivalry between the two comic book studios – saying on Twitter:
“Not only do I love Kevin [Feige], he was the first person I told after I did the deal with DC (John Cena was the second). Contrary to popular belief, a dollar less for Marvel is not a dollar more for DC. DC and Marvel have the common goal of keeping the theatre-going experience vibrant and alive!”
Gunn’s role at DC begins this coming Tuesday, though he has “The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special” arriving on Disney+ on November 25th, along with “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” hitting cinemas on May 5th 2023.
