Frequent social media user and filmmaker James Gunn recently held an Instagram Q&A whilst in self-isolation due to the current global pandemic.
Questions naturally flowed fast about both “The Suicide Squad” film which he recently finished filming and is now in post-production on, and the “Guardians of the Galaxy” franchise which he’ll helm the third entry of sometime within the next year or so.
In terms of ‘Squad, he was about the film’s rating which he had previously confirmed had already been decided on. Asked if it gets an R, he says: “wait and see.” With the film not coming out until August 2021, Gunn says it’s still likely we’ll get a first glimpse at footage from the feature sometime later this year.
Asked to choose between Harley Quinn and The Joker, Gunn says he loved writing Margot Robbie’s Harley for the upcoming film because she’s so well defined:
“Oh, I love the Joker, but Harley is one of my favourite characters I’ve ever written. In fact, she’s probably my favourite comic character whose personality was well-defined before I wrote her for the screen. She’s an incredible companion to have while writing her insane actions and dialogue. Did I say I LOVED her?”
Gunn also confirmed the film takes place in the year it comes out, ie. 2021, and so events will take place after those seen in “Birds of Prey”.
Gunn also says he has no further plans with Marvel Studios after completion of the third “Guardians of the Galaxy,” film saying he always “planned to do a trilogy from the beginning if the first one worked out” before concretely saying there are “no plans to do a fourth.”
