Gunn On “The Batman Part II” Script Outrage

Warner Bros. Pictures

At last report back in May, filmmaker Matt Reeves indicated he was nearly finished writing the script for “The Batman Part II” with DC Studios chief James Gunn expected to get it soon.

The project was first announced back in April 2022, but strikes and delays pushed the film’s shoot back to next year ahead of an October 2027 release. Now, Puck News is today reporting that Reeves’ script will be handed in later this month and filming is on track to begin in January.

At the same time, today has also seen the publication of several interviews with Gunn who has shared that he finds the ‘outrage’ people have been expressing over the delays or possible cancellation of the project, has been irritating. He tells EW:

“Listen, we’re supposed to get a script in June. I hope that happens. We feel really good about it. People should get off Matt’s nuts because it’s like, let the guy write the screenplay in the amount of time he needs to write it. That’s just the way it is. He doesn’t owe you something because you like his movie. I mean, you like his movie because of Matt. So let Matt do things the way he does.

“I am irritated by people. I mean, it’s just that thing people don’t need to be entitled about. It’s going to come out when he feels good about the screenplay. And Matt’s not going to give me the screenplay until he feels good about the screenplay.”

Robert Pattinson is expected back as the titular Dark Knight along with Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, and Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb/The Penguin and more.
