Gunn On Batman Writer & “Flash” Hopes

Warner Bros. Pictures

Recently came the news that Christina Hodson had been tapped by DC Studios chief James Gunn to pen the script for the upcoming DCU Batman movie “The Brave and the Bold”.

That hiring drew some eyebrows. The British screenwriter is best known for writing the well-received “Bumblebee” and “Birds of Prey” films, and not so well-regarded 2023 “The Flash” film for the DCEU.

That last film in particular led to criticism of the hire on social media, which Gunn has now responded to on Threads (via CS, saying:

“I will only say anyone maligning Christina Hodson’s screenwriting skills has almost certainly never read an actual screenplay by Christina Hodson – she’s one of the writers who was with us early in the DCU planning stages. I don’t think you can judge my writing based on films others directed, as massive liberties are sometimes taken.”

Gunn also commented on recent reports regarding “The Brave and the Bold” saying, “the universe is rife with incorrect information about the Brave and the Bold on every level.”

Someone told Gunn that TV’s The Flash, actor Grant Gustin, has ‘gotta happen’ – referring to the actor making the jump to film. Gunn responded: “It happened on TV for 9 seasons”.

Another comment, reportedly now deleted, asked if Pattinson could appear as Batman in the DCU as a ‘variant’ disconnected from the Matt Reeves films to which Gunn simply said “No”.
