Gunn On “Batman” Affleck Rumor, DC Truth

Warner Bros. Pictures

DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has been surprisingly open on social media in recent times with straight talk that shoots down wild rumors about upcoming DC projects across social media, Reddit threads and some geek sites.

A recent one cropped up at Above The Line which reported a day ago that the project that Ben Affleck met with Gunn and Peter Safran about was for him to potentially direct the DCU’s new Batman film “The Brave and the Bold”.

Someone responded to that report calling Gunn a professional liar and saying that Gunn said in a previous interview that Affleck’s not directing “The Brave and the Bold”.

Gunn responded to that in a series of tweets on Wednesday, saying: “For years it’s been my commitment to the fans that I will never lie to them… and I never have. I’d be very curious about what it is you think I’ve lied about.”

The original poster responded with screen captures of tweets from a while back, saying: “Not wanting to run DC, and not wanting to make a Superman film, for starters.”

Gunn responded to that saying: “Neither of those were lies” and clarifying that he was offered Superman but did 2021’s “The Suicide Squad” instead. Then, “a few years later I saw how to tackle Superman & took it on”.

He then says he never wanted to be “the sole CEO of DC” but when they came & offered it to him and co-CEO Peter Safran with the latter handling the business side of things, Gunn “said yes because I could focus on the creative side.”

Gunn closed things off saying while he never will lie about anything, that doesn’t mean he won’t change his mind about things from time to time.
