Whilst doing interviews for the “Bloodshot” release this month, actor Vin Diesel made some interesting statements to various outlets.
His citing of the end of “Furious 7” as the greatest moment in cinema was nice if a little shortsighted. He also did an interview with The National in which he said he recently ran into Steven Spielberg (whom he worked with on “Saving Private Ryan”) and says that his former director encouraged him to get back to the part of filmmaking Diesel has only dabbled in once so far – directing:
“I saw him [Spielberg] recently, and he had said to me. ‘When I wrote the role for you in Saving Private Ryan, I was obviously employing the actor, but I was also secretly championing the director in you, and you have not directed enough. That is a crime of cinema and you must get back in the directing chair’.”
Diesel also spoke about “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” and says he doesn’t really know what’s going on with the film at the moment, but claims ‘Alpha Groot’ was going to be introduced in the film – essentially a new version of the character following the original Groot of the first film, baby Groot of the second, and teenage Groot in “Avengers: Infinity War”.
Director James Gunn, who wrote the script, responded to a question about that on Twitter, saying he’s not sure what Diesel is talking about, saying: “Haha no idea. Maybe he just means the most awesome Groot ever?” before later adding: “I think he was talking about what he imagined the future Groot to be (he hasn’t read the script). And, yes, they’re a different being.”
Gunn recently wrapped filming on “The Suicide Squad” which is in the midst of post-production. That film is still over a year away from hitting cinemas and the third ‘Guardians’ has yet to set a release date with some time in 2022 the most likely scenario.
