The first trailer for Marvel Studios’ “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” arrived this week and, much like with the “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” trailer a few hours before it, the clip has been dissected by fandom shot-for-shot.
One shot that has gotten people talking is one featuring five Guardians (Gamora, Star-Lord, Mantis, Nebula, Drax) decked out in brightly colored spacesuits and jumping slowly through space.
The suits have drawn comparisons to everything from Teletubbies to the Wiggles, but the most common reference is the smash hit mobile game “Among Us”.
Asked directly if the shot is a reference to that, writer/director James Gunn cleared up that confusion with one clear tweet saying “No”. In addition, he included a still of another set of brightly colored spacesuits – these ones from Stanley Kubrick’s “2001: A Space Odyssey”.
It follows on from the Kubrick film landing sixth place on the best film of all time on the latest Sight and Sound poll and reportedly remains the best movie of all time according to film directors.
