Though “The Flash” may have stolen the thunder on Twitter, when it comes to overall social media stats it was Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” that won the show at the Super Bowl on Sunday.
Social media analytics corp RelishMix (via Deadline) have provided their annual survey of the most watched Super Bowl movie trailers. The third and final adventure with Star-Lord and the crew came in at #1, reportedly clocked up 134.1 million views across TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter and Facebook.
It’s the first Super Bowl trailer since pre-pandemic times to break the 100 million view threshold on social media in the 24 hour period following the Big Game, the prior one to that was “F9” during the 2020 Super Bowl which pulled in 110.9 million views.
Others who performed very strongly were “The Flash” and “Fast X” with a 24-hour viewership of 97.4 million and 94.1 million respectively. All beat last year’s top Super Bowl film trailer – “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” which snagged 93.1 million views.
All three titles boasted thirty-second spots which promoted longer trailers released online. One key difference is ‘Guardians’ released its trailer during the game, thus it was the freshest of the three as the others had already released their trailers prior to kick-off.
Thirteen film-related trailers in total aired this year on Super Bowl Sunday, up by three from last year and up by two on the average of film trailers at the Super Bowl over the past decade.
