Out promoting his young cannibal romance drama “Bones and All” at the Telluride Film Festival, director Luca Guadagnino has revealed he’s still very intent on doing a follow-up to 2017’s acclaimed “Call Me By Your Name”.

However, he tells Indiewire he doesn’t think of what he’s planning as a sequel: “A sequel is an American concept. It’s more like the chronicles of Elio (Timothee Chalamet), the chronicles of this young boy becoming a man. It is something I want to do.”

That quote would suggest the film will avoid the issues of the involvement of Armie Hammer’s Oliver by simply not having Oliver involved and seeing Elio at another stage in his life.

Chalamet broke out with that film, but he and Guadagnino kept in touch, which led to their reunion a few years later for “Bones and All” which hits cinemas later this year. Guadagnino gushed about Chalamet’s rise to fame:

“To see the humbleness and rigour with which he made his first steps toward stardom – this bright, feverish young man became this planetary star – made me so proud. There is a very beautiful bond between me.”

Chalamet is currently busy filming “Dune: Part Two” for Denis Villeneuve in Budapest, though he did make time to appear at the Venice Film Festival for the ‘Bones’ launch.
