As part of a recent interview with the Playlist Podcast, actor Frank Grillo has confirmed he’s returning to the role of Leo Barnes for the upcoming sixth film in “The Purge” franchise.

This year’s fifth film “The Forever Purge” essentially seemed to end the series but filmmaker James DeMonaco admitted at the time he had an idea for a sixth one.

That seems to have flourished into a script as Grillo confirms to the podcast the film is happening and his character from the second and third films will be the focus:

“Committed! We committed to doing that – ‘Purge 6′ with [James DeMonaco] directing. It’s based on the Leo Barnes character. I’m excited. He’s going to send me the script. He just finished it. So, yeah, I’m really psyched about that. I love doing the ‘Purge’ movies…I’m psyched, they called me and said James wanted to direct one more and I’m like, ‘Don’t even tell me. I’m in.'”

“The Forever Purge” opened in July and even with COVID restrictions, the film still managed to gross $77 million off an $18 million budget. It’s currently available on VOD and hits disc at month’s end.

In a separate interview with The Beard and the Bald podcast (via Movieweb, Grillo also confirmed he will star in a limited series remake of the Sylvester Stallone 1981 neo-noir thriller feature “Nighthawks”.

Not only that, but Stallone himself will direct the eight-episode project: “We’re redoing Nighthawks as a limited TV series – eight episodes. I’m playing him. He’s directing, he’s gonna direct ’em, and then he’s gonna be in it…It’s happening as we speak, we’re selling it right now.”

Grillo can be seen starring opposite Gerard Butler in Joe Carnahan’s “Copshop” which is scheduled to be released in the United States on September 17th.
