Though films based on DC Comics properties look to be on unsteady ground under the new management of Warner Bros. Discovery, the streamer doesn’t appear to be messing around too much with its DC TV projects – at least not the ones already in production.
TV Line has confirmed that both HBO Max’s “Black Canary” movie and its “Green Lantern” TV series are both still very much alive and moving forward at the streamer.
The former will spin-off Jurnee Smollett’s Dinah Lance character from 2019’s “Birds of Prey” film, and the latter will see Greg Berlanti producing what is tipped to be the biggest DC series ever made and stars Jeremy Irvine and Finn Wittrock as two incarnations of the character.
Berlanti wasn’t so lucky with his “DC’s Strange Adventures” project as filmmaker Kevin Smith revealed on the Hollywood Babble-On podcast this week that planned HBO Max anthology series, which was still only in development, has been scrapped with Smith being told it was “officially dead”.
The CW’s three DC series are all moving ahead as planned, with the ninth and final season of “The Flash,” the third season of “Superman and Lois” and the first season of “Gotham Knights” all coming. The same is likely true for a fourth season of “Titans,” which is only a few weeks away from wrapping filming. “Doom Patrol” was renewed for a fourth season last year, but no word on its potential fate yet.
Guaranteed safe is the second season of James Gunn’s critical hit “Peacemaker”. Also safe is the third season of “Pennyworth” which is complete and has been set for an October launch on HBO Max with a new title: “Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman’s Butler”. Check out the first trailer for that below:
